U.S. Department Of Energy (DOE)
Pursuant to orders issued on July 21, 2016 and October 16, 2019, Venture Global Plaquemines LNG, LLC has been authorized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy to export up to a total combined volume of 1,240 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per year of domestically produced liquefied natural gas from its Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana export facility to free trade agreement (FTA) countries. Plaquemines LNG is authorized to export the LNG for a term lasting through December 31, 2050. On June 13, 2022, DOE granted an amendment to Plaquemines LNG to increase the FTA export volume to 1,405.33 Bcf/year of natural gas. Approval of Plaquemines LNG’s requested non-FTA volume increase is still pending.
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
On September 30, 2019, the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued the Order Granting Authorization under Section 3 and 7 of the Natural Gas Act for the Plaquemines LNG export facility and the Gator Express pipeline. The FERC Order allows Plaquemines LNG and Gator Express to site, construct, and operate the Project in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Plaquemines LNG and Gator Express were assigned the docket numbers CP17-66-000 and CP17-67-000, and filings can be found and read in full at FERC’s website.
Regulatory Permits and Approvals
Plaquemines LNG and Gator Express have also worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Transportation, National Park Service, National Marin Fisheries Service, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources, and various other agencies of the State of Louisiana and Plaquemines Parish to obtain all necessary permits and approvals for operation.
